Should I Fix or Buy A New Phone System?

Written by John Ciarlone | Jan 12, 2013 3:00:00 PM

One of the toughest decisions faced by business organizations is whether or not to replace their existing small business phone systems with a new phone system. After all, the good old phone system has proven to be sturdy enough and efficiently sufficed all your organizational requirements until recent days. If little tweaks by an engineer here and there can resume the functionality of the old system, does it really make sense to invest in a new one?

Cost Concerns

The biggest reason why any organization hesitates to invest in a new phone system is the cost it implies. It would be much more affordable to invest in an engineer who can come around and restore your phone system functions. But how many times and how often are you willing to pay the engineer? If you do the math, the amount and time you spend in contacting an engineer and getting him to repair your system sums up to be much more than investing in a new hassle free phone system. Add to this the time lost during the maintenance and repair of your older phone system and you will wish you had invested in a new phone system
 much earlier.

The early signs

Your phone system is quite comparable to the human body in the way it behaves. It is going to start showing minor signs of glitches and hiccups to announce that its ageing process has begun.  It is always recommended that you call the engineer at the first signs of trouble. Get your system fixed immediately. An engineer can also give you sound advice on whether your phone system has outlived its purpose and whether or not you need to invest in a new phone system.

The wear and tear of phone systems

Even a fully functional phone system will finally give in to the pressure of regular wear and tear.  The worst kinds of problems are usually caused by the depreciation of the internal machinery within the phone system. This usually is reflected in the lack of quality of sound and other smaller malfunctions. While these might not seem like a big concern at the time and might not seem to hamper the functionality of the phone system in the given time frame, it is a sure signal that your phone system is heading to a stage where it will be beyond repair.

Technology updates

Technology keeps bringing something new to the doorstep every day. Naturally even phone systems are not spared. The new phone systems are equipped with better technology to facilitate glitch free communication with ease. While some older systems can be upgraded to a relatively newer technology, the make of the system restricts the extent to which the new
technology can benefit your organization. By investing in a new phone system you can make the technology work to give you better results.

Business Expansion

Believe it or not butold small business phone systems can actually prove to be a deterrent to an expanding business. As the phone system grows older, so does its capability and the technology it is equipped with. An old phone system might not be able to successfully bear the brunt of an increase in the volume of calls of a rapidly expanding business.  This could result in a lot of pressure in handling customer calls on your employees. A new phone system can be programmed to adapt to the needs of a growing business.
