The 1500 line of NetVanta switches are deliberately built to be light on extraneous features, but pack a heavy punch. Not that they underperform; it's quite the contrary. The point is to have lean, mean network machines which are focused on high performance with as little wasted effort as possible.
Unlike the entry-level NetVanta 1510 switch, however, this Adtran Gigabit switch boasts 10-Gigabit SFP+ ports and superior configuration options. As such, it hits a very nice middle ground of usability and expandability.
Like the ADTRAN 1510, you get your choice of either 24 or 48 Gigabit Ethernet ports, as well as optional Power-over-Ethernet support. However, the NetVanta 1550 has four SFP+ ports, each capable of handling up to 10 Gigabits in throughput. It supports advanced multi-level switching, with both Layer 2 and Layer 3 Lite routing methods.
One nice feature is that it includes on-board surge protection for the Ethernet ports, which should give it superior survivability during storms and other electrical incidents.
Furthermore, backplane throughput can be increased up to 128Gbps. By stacking them through ActivChassis, the connected devices see a speed boost due to their close proximity on the network topography and shared protocol set.
The switches themselves can actually be located up to six miles apart, and still function as a high-speed single switch distributed across your physical network.
Then, this can all be managed and run via the ADTRAN ProCloud network management system, which the ADTRAN 1550 switch fully supports. You can manage your network through a web interface from any device, from anywhere. You'll also have access to 24/7 technical support, along with 24/7 remote monitoring by ADTRAN agents looking to protect you
r network against any potential intrusion.
Although, unlike the ADTRAN 1510, you can use the command-line interface and SNMP with the NetVanta 1550.
All this adds up to a truly great all-around option in switching. If you need a "fire and forget" workhorse to handle your VoIP switching, it's largely built for that p

rds as you grow, the ActivChassis system makes it simple to expand your backplane as needed, with a minimum of effort. If you're looking to expand across multiple nearby buildings, ActivChassis is a compelling option.
